Welcome

The Saskatchewan Agri-Environmental Mapping Initiative was created in partnership and consultation with a diverse range of stakeholders from the agricultural community in Saskatchewan. This initiative was made possible through the valuable contributions of
numerous agricultural producers, municipalities, regional groups, NGO’s, and federal and provincial agencies.

Saskatchewan Agri-Environmental Mapping Initiative (Sask Agri-Map)

There are three main objectives of the Saskatchewan Agri-Environmental Mapping Initiative:

  • To serve as a central source of agri-environmental information for the agricultural
          community in Saskatchewan.

  • To improve local and regional agricultural land and water management decisions in
          Saskatchewan.

  • To strengthen and grow regional planning in the province by increasing the capacity of
          groups and municipalities.

  • Why was Sask Agri-Map Developed?

The agricultural community in Saskatchewan is facing progressively complicated land and water management decisions. Diversification of the agricultural economy, expansion of the livestock industry and changes in land use has resulted in agri-environmental concerns and resource pressures. In order for agricultural producers, regional groups, and municipalities to make informed decisions that best promote sustainable development, protection of land and water resources, and development of new economic opportunities, access to current agri-environmental information is required. Currently, there is no simple procedure to acquire this information.

Sask Agri-Map is an interactive GIS mapping website that will provide the agricultural community in Saskatchewan with a central source of geospatial information. Access to this comprehensive library of digital land and water information will provide producers, regional groups and municipalities with a greater capacity to make informed decisions on the landscape. The interactive component of the website will provide tools and applications to assist users with on-farm, local, and regional planning initiatives.
